I was so excited to get the call to work on this project. I have driven by the home and lot since I started architecture school; I lived on the next block when I first moved to New Orleans. This project presented some unique challenges. The existing house is remarkably big. As the client and I began the planning, one of the conundrums that emerged was: how do we program all of the square footage with new program pieces while not violating the existing historic rooms and spaces. Through a few iterations and dialogue with the client, I believe we arrived at a good solution.
